I love October-it is by far my favorite month of the year. The cool weather and changing leaves always have me craving everything pumpkin. Recipe by Kristina Case

2 cups pumpkin puree
4 eggs
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
2 tsp baking soda
3 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp allspice
1 tsp cloves
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp salt
1 cup white sugar

1 cup oil (I melt 1/2 coconut oil and 1/2 c butter) but you can use canola or grapeseed oil
2/3 cup water

Before making an offer, learn what to check – from the foundation to the layout and major systems to the neighborhood.

Finding a property that captures your heart immediately is exciting – but before making an offer, take a step back. Fresh paint and thoughtful staging can make a place feel move-in ready while hiding issues that could affect your comfort or lead to costly repairs down the line. A closer look at the condition, systems, functionality and location can help you decide whether the home – and the price – make sense before moving forward.

Look Closely at the Home's Structure

Start with the parts of the property that can reveal how well it has been maintained and what may need attention.

Check for Foundation and W...

Simple Ways to Create a Calmer, More Comfortable Space

Of all the spaces in your home, the bedroom is where you spend some of your most important hours recharging. The way it looks, feels and functions can help set the stage for true relaxation. From lighting and temperature to color and clutter, a few intentional choices can transform your space into a restful bedroom that makes winding down at the end of the day feel effortless.

Start With a Calming Color Palette

Color can have a powerful effect on how a room feels. For a restful bedroom, consider soft, muted shades rather than highly saturated colors that add visual energy. Warm neutrals, gentle blues, earthy greens and...

Those saving for retirement today have unique challenges compared with past generations. Many companies offered pension plans that rewarded a lifetime of work with guaranteed income for their retirement years. And if you weren't lucky enough to receive a pension, at least there was Social Security. Many retirees received both a pension and Social Security.

The world is a different place today, at least for those who are not yet retired. Pensions for most private sector employees have been all but phased out over the past few decades. And Social Security's long-term funding is a topic of ongoing policy debate. Some projections suggest that without legislative changes, the program could face pressure to reduce benefits in the coming decades - though the ti...

Your phone rings during dinner. The caller says they are from your bank. There is a problem with your account, they explain, and action is needed right away. Maybe they mention suspicious activity. Maybe they say your debit card has been locked. Maybe they already know part of your account number, your address, or the last four digits of your Social Security number.

That is what makes impersonation scams so effective. They do not always begin with something obviously ridiculous. They begin with something familiar.

The scammer is not just asking for money. They are borrowing trust. They want you to believe that the person contacting you is a bank employee, a government official, a tech support representative, or even someone you love. Once that ha...
